Los Angeles Lakers: 3 low-risk, high-reward free agents to sign
Lou Williams
The Lakers need scoring, Lou Williams is a scorer…..
One of the biggest things holding the Los Angeles Lakers back last season was the inability of players not named LeBron James and Anthony Davis to score and help out the team when things weren’t going according to plan.
We can blame injuries, we can blame the shortest offseason in NBA history for this but at the end of the day, some of the members of the Los Angeles Lakers simply did not perform.
With scoring being high on the agenda of the Lakers front office this off-season, they could do significantly worse than a former 3-time 6th man of the year.
Like Carmelo Anthony, Lou Williams is no longer the force he once was, but just because he isn’t at his best doesn’t mean that he isn’t still a valuable contributor to a potential championship effort.
Like the Utah Jazz with Jordan Clarkson, you need a guy who is a sparkplug off the bench. In Lou William’s case, his job if he were to re-join the Lakers is to simply just shoot the ball, that’s it.
Lou in his time with Atlanta this season has shot 44.4% from the 3-point line, an absurdly high number. While he can’t be expected to keep up that level of 3-point marksmanship, the Lakers would be quite happy with him shooting slightly above his career 35.1% from 3.
Before making his move to Atlanta, Lou Williams considered retirement. He wished to remain in Los Angeles and ideally retire a Clipper. While this may no longer be possible, he could find himself back in LA with the Lakers, a team he once called home.
He is still capable of making a difference on a championship team. If he can do this with the Lakers and he gets to come back to a city he called home, then he might be willing to take a discount in order to playback in LA.
