The Los Angeles Lakers do not have very many options to improve this offseason. There are limited free-agent options with the money that the team has to spend and there is no big superstar to trade for.
Or is there?
While he might not be a superstar, Kyle Lowry is still one of the 30 best players in the league today and is a free agent this offseason. That seemingly prices him out of joining the Lakers, right? Wrong.
There is a legitimate possibility for the Los Angeles Lakers to trade for Kyle Lowry. It would take Lowry conducting a sign-and-trade with the Raptors, as well as the Lakers doing a sign-and-trade with Dennis Schroder.
It may sound like a pipe dream, but it is completely possible. Let’s break down why Kyle Lowry could actually be a Laker for the start of next season.
1. Kyle Lowry is exactly what the Los Angeles Lakers need
First and foremost, we have to address the fact that Kyle Lowry is the perfect kind of player that the Los Angeles Lakers should be pursuing this offseason. Good enough to be the third star on the team while knowing what it takes to not be the guy. Someone who is tough, gritty and has the leadership qualities that it takes to win.
Not only does he fit the identity of the team in that regard, but he also plays the exact position that the Lakers need to address the most this offseason. Point guard is more important than any other position and the Lakers would really benefit from adding a dynamic guard who can also help with the playmaking duties.
Lowry is the best possible acquisition for the Lakers this offseason. The ceiling for this offseason is Kyle Lowry and every other possible move falls underneath. This is the golden goose that the Lakers should be chasing, and because of that, they would be more willing to conduct a trade to get him.
