Los Angeles Lakers greatest scorers: 12. Jamaal Wilkes
Jamaal Wilkes spent eight seasons with the Lakers essentially at the start of the Magic Johnson era with the franchise. The forward obviously wouldn’t go on to be the star that Magic was and wasn’t around for the entirety of the Showtime Lakers, but he helped usher in that era with Magic in Kareem and was around at the start. Moreover, Wilkes was also able to produce at a high level in terms of scoring over his tenure in Los Angeles and he deserves to be recognized as such.
In 575 career games with the Lakers, Wilkes was able to amass 10,601 total points. That’s good enough for an average of 18.4 points per game, an impressive mark considering that he was playing with Magic and Kareem at the time. Moreover, Wilkes was also one of the more consistent scorers in Lakers history in relation to his productivity as well. For his career, the forward hit 51.6 percent of his field goal attempts over his eight years in Los Angeles.
Wilkes isn’t one of the first names that comes to mind in the context of greatest Lakers of all time, but he was undeniably effective as a scorer. Subsequently, he come in just outside of the top 10 of these rankings.
