Los Angeles Lakers greatest scorers: 28. Lucius Allen

Point guard Lucius Allen spent three seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers in the late 1970s and was the one of the generals in the offense for that time. He was a fine overall point guard in terms of his overall contributions. However, Allen’s greatest contributions were unquestionably derived from his abilities as a scorer from the point guard position.

Allen played in 210 games over the course of his time spent in Los Angeles and finished his Lakers tenure with 3,351 total points scored. That averages out to Allen putting up 16 points per game over his time in Los Angeles. The point guard also shot 45.2 percent from the field over his time in purple and gold, which is a more than adequate level of efficiency for most any point guard, but especially a guard in the era which he played. Moreover, his scoring came before the institution of the three-point line, another factor working in his favor.

Allen wasn’t a player that lit the box score on fire on a nightly basis, but there’s inherent value in having a point guard who can score and score efficiently. He played that role quite well for the Lakers while he was there and, had he stuck around a bit longer, he may have snuck into the top 20 of these rankings.
