Los Angeles Lakers greatest scorers: 25. Jordan Clarkson
Over the course of 3.5 seasons playing with the Los Angeles Lakers at the start of his NBA career, Jordan Clarkson was very much an enigmatic presence on the floor. In 273 games with the franchise, he averaged a solid 14.3 points per game while shooting 44.2 percent from the floor and 33.2 percent on 3-point attempts.
Those numbers are certainly fine but, alone, they probably don’t warrant the former second-round pick earning a spot among the 30 greatest scorers in franchise history. However, that’s what made and still makes Clarkson such a fascinating and enticing player. Because even if he’s not a consistent threat, his ability to take over games with his scoring is undeniable.
Particularly when he was playing in a pseudo-sixth man role for the Lakers, Clarkson was among the better heat-check type of players in the league. If he checked into a game and the shot was falling, the opposing team was going to be in for a long night. Whenever he was on, it was hard for any defender to do anything to cool him down.
Since being traded to the Cavaliers in the middle of the 2017-18 season, Clarkson has continued to be a bit of an inconsistent but still-dangerous scorer when he’s on the floor. And while no one would ever mistake him as a bonafide elite talent when it comes to lighting up the scoreboard night-in and night-out, his ability to pop off earns him a top-25 spot in these rankings.
