Los Angeles Lakers: 30 greatest individual performances in team history: 28. Lamar Odom does it all

The Lakers had a terrific season in 2007-08. At the end of the year, they found themselves in the NBA Finals, although they would come up just short against the Boston Celtics.

Of course, Kobe Bryant took home league MVP, Pau Gasol was a multiple-time All-Star, Andrew Bynum was finally turning into the player many believed he would be and Trevor Ariza was the perfect 3 and D player.

With that said, many of those guys weren’t available when the Golden State Warriors came into Staples Center late in the year. The only other viable option that Bryant could rely on was the multi-talented Swiss Army Knife, Lamar Odom. Under normal circumstances, Odom tended to just blend in and do what was asked of him. That, in turn, led to multiple nights where he appeared to be underachieving. This time around, he knew he had to step up.

Forced to be Bryant’s best friend for the night, Odom delivered arguably the best game of his career. He scored 19 points, grabbed 22 boards and dished out four assists. It was all in vain, however, as the Lakers would go on to lose by four points. But still, it was performances such as that which made Laker fans question why couldn’t Odom do that every night?
