Reason against: The Los Angeles Lakers would likely have to take on Kevin Love

This is the biggest reason against and could be the thing that throws a wrench in the entire trade. For the Los Angeles Lakers to acquire Collin Sexton they would almost undoubtedly have to acquire Kevin Love as well.

The initial trade reports about Sexton have claimed that the team is looking to potentially pair him with Kevin Love as an asset to get Love’s contract off the books. Love has one of the worst contracts in the league as he is no longer an all-star and Sexton would be the prize to convince teams to take it on.

Granted, Cleveland still has to get something in return and will be asking for a decent return that the Lakers can match. But at the end of the day, if it is the Lakers then it will include Love.

There are two reasons why. First is that the Lakers simply do not have a good enough package to trade straight up for Sexton. Other interested teams can piece together more realistic packages that will intrigue Cleveland if it is just Sexton’s in the trade.

The second reason is the money aspect. The Lakers don’t have the contracts to take on Sexton’s deal as everything would be too large for the Cavaliers to take on. For that reason, the trade would have to include Love; not only so it is possible, but because that is the best thing the Lakers can offer than other teams might not offer.

So, what would a trade potentially look like and should the Los Angeles Lakers do it? Let’s break it down.
