4. Trey Murphy III

Trey Murphy was also a part of the group that worked out for the Los Angeles Lakers on July 10th, so there must be some interest in him because he is one of the larger wing prospects with a smooth jump shot. Murphy is a great threat from 3-point range, he shot over 40% from beyond the arc in two out of his three seasons in college, and the one season he did not he was Rice’s leading scorer.

He answered questions about playing against lower-end college competition last season when he went to Virginia and was a major contributor for them as a starter. Standing at 6’9″ with a 7’0″ wingspan he could come in and be a three and D option for the Lakers at the small forward and even power forward positions to help them stretch the floor.

Athleticism probably is not his strong suit, but 3-point shooting is not all he can do, he has decent handles for his size and can get his own shot. He had to improve his efficiency last season because of less touches on a new team, but he still averaged double figures while shooting over 50% from the field.

Given that Murphy spent three seasons in college, he could fall far enough in the first round for the Lakers to be able to pick him. That does not mean he does not have upside though, at only 21 years old he still has plenty of room to improve his game.
