Andre Drummond: Dallas Mavericks
The Dallas Mavericks are in an interesting place this offseason. They are welcoming a new head coach and are dealing with the issue of quickly putting together a contender for Luka Doncic before it is too late.
Doncic has been incredible but as we know in the league in 2021, stars will grow upset and will leave the team that drafted them. The only player that has gone against that in today’s NBA is Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The Mavericks are looking to follow in the Bucks’ footsteps and they just do not have the guys. The Bucks drafted Khris Middleton and then had the capital to trade for Jrue Holiday. The Hornets do not have the assets to land a player of Holiday’s caliber and instead are going to have to upgrade in a limited capacity.
That is why Andre Drummond makes sense. He can be spun as a former all-star that is joining Luka Doncic and could benefit from Luka’s playmaking. He also helps the team’s rebounding efforts, which quite frankly, were awful last season.
Dallas ranked third to last in contested rebound percentage last season. Drummond would instantly help that cause. Boban Marjanovic is a free agent and the team has a club option for Willie Cauley-Stein. There is room.
