3. Ayo Dosunmu
You might be noticing a trend here. Ayo Dosunmu is also an older draft prospect who is coming into the league after three years with Illinois. Dosunmu enters the draft at 21 years old and will be turning 22 in January.
This would not only be another lower ceiling selection for the Lakers but it would be a slight reach. Realistically, it does not matter what the big boards say you just have to take the player you like the most. However, it is important to note that most big boards have Dosunmu in the high 20s heading into the draft.
The Lakers would be taking him slightly before his projected landing spot. This would indicate that the team was high on him and if they are high on him they are not going to trade him, especially if they do have to bite the bullet and trade Talen Horton-Tucker this offseason.
In fact, I would argue that selecting Dosunmu would signal a THT trade as the two players are so similar. Both are long, athletic combo guards who can play on-ball and off-ball.
Both guys have decent mid-range games, can get to the rim and have the seeds of being a good playmaker and facilitator. Both utilize their size and length and are solid defensive players. Both were born in 2000.
Like THT, Dosunmu has not been a consistent three-point shooter. He did shoot 39% from beyond the arc last season but that number would likely dip in the pros, especially considering he only attempted 2.9 threes per game.
I do not see the Los Angeles Lakers taking Ayo Dosunmu if Talen Horton-Tucker is going to stick around as it would be a tad redundant. However, if the Lakers are planning something else, Dosunmu might just be the right pick.
