3. The Los Angeles Lakers add a second-round pick in the 2021 NBA Draft

The Los Angeles Lakers are entering Thursday with one pick on the ledger and if all goes as planned the team will be coming away with two draft selections in the 2021 NBA Draft. There are two ways in which the Lakers can get a second pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.

The first way that the Lakers can get a second-round pick is in a potential trade they make to move down in the first. If the Lakers do make a trade similar to the one for Kuzma they could ask for the other team to throw in a second-round pick as well.

Second-round picks are not really valued much in the NBA so it will not be a hurdle in any potential trade talks.

The other way is for the Lakers to essentially buy a second-round pick. This is what the team did with Talen Horton-Tucker and if there is someone that the Lakers like, and there is a team with a full roster, the Lakers could add the pick for nothing.

All it might take is Alfonzo McKinnie (who has a non-guaranteed contract next season) and some cash for the second-round pick. It has to be the right team that does not have the money/space to add a second-round pick but it is possible.

Regardless, the Lakers will most likely have a select group of prospects that they really like and want to develop. The draft is deeper than it has ever been and the Lakers have an eye for talent. They are going to need to add cheap roster spots to the team and a second-round pick is just that.

So expect a trade down for the Los Angeles Lakers, regardless of if there are any players involved, an older prospect to be picked in round one and another pick in the second round, most likely because of the initial trade down.
