Los Angeles Lakers: 4 players that the Lakers could be waiting to sign
By Jason Reed
3. Rajon Rondo
This is a more recent development as two weeks ago it would not have seemed likely at all that the Los Angeles Lakers could bring in Rajon Rondo. However, as it stands today, it certainly seems like a possibility.
Rondo is not yet a free agent but he very well could be soon. He was traded by the Los Angeles Clippers to the Memphis Grizzlies in a package for Eric Bledsoe. The Grizzlies then flipped Patrick Beverley, who was also in the trade, to Minnesota.
Rondo still remains on the Grizzlies but there really is no reason for him to be in Memphis with Ja Morant. Rondo is reportedly unlikely to stay with the Grizzlies this season and all signs seem to be pointing to him being a Laker if he does get bought out.
Again, we know that the Lakers are at least somewhat interested in bringing in a guard considering they worked out three of them and Rondo would be a much better option than Isaiah Thomas, Darren Collison or Mike James.
Rondo was exceptional for the Lakers during the 2020 title run and while he was not good for the Clippers last season, the potential for Playoff Rondo is still there and for a minimum contract that is a risk worth taking.
Even if Playoff Rondo does not show up he still provides veteran depth and leadership to the Lakers. The Lakers might be looking for some more locker room glue guys after Jared Dudley left and Rondo could be that guy while also being able to produce, unlike Dudley.
