Ranking the top three-point shooters on the Los Angeles Lakers roster

4. Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo Anthony is a future Hall of Famer and at this point in his career, his best value is as an off-ball shooter that can succeed with the attention focused on other players. Carmelo can still go isolation in a limited capacity but that should not be a big portion of the Los Angeles Lakers’ game plan.

Carmelo is likely going to get ample playing time with the Lakers this season. The team does not have a traditional backup power forward and with the team being cautious with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, Melo and Trevor Ariza (who I have finishing sixth in threes made) should get playing time.

While Carmelo is known for being a great scorer and shot over 40% from three last season, he actually does not take as many threes as you would think. Carmelo attempted 4.7 threes in just under 25 minutes per game last season.

He will likely get around 26-28 minutes per game this season, so a fair (and easy) number to anticipate is five threes attempted per game. From there, we can do easy math and say that if he shoots 40% from three that he should average around two threes per game.

I do not project Carmelo to play every single game for the Los Angeles Lakers this season, instead projecting him to play around 70 games. That puts him right at 140 made threes, right behind the no. 3 player on this list.
