2. Wesley Matthews
Wesley Matthews is still a free agent as training camp looms around the corner, which definitely is not where the veteran wing projected himself to be at this point in time. There is a chance that a team could come in and bring him in but if they really wanted him that move would have happened already.
There is absolutely a reality in which no suitor emerges for Matthews and he instead returns to the Los Angeles Lakers on a minimum deal. It might not be the most exciting move in the world, but as we have already stated, any depth is better than no depth.
The reason for the nonexistent market for Matthews is because he played poorly last season for the Lakers. He was viewed as a replacement for Danny Green, who was traded for Dennis Schroder, and could not even live up to the low expectations.
His three-point shooting was nowhere close to what the Lakers were hoping for and he was an average defender at best. That being said, we have seen time and time again that shooting can be streaky and average defense is still fine defense.
While Matthews fits on paper, I would be shocked if Rob Pelinka made this move. He is seemingly wiping his hands clean of all the additions the team made last offseason as Montrezl Harrell, Dennis Schroder and Marc Gasol are no longer on the team.
