3. PPG + RPG + APG: Oscar Robertson’s 1961-62 (41) vs. Russell Westbrook’s 2021-22
Russell Westbrook has been connected to Oscar Robertson ever since he became the first player since the big O to average a triple-double in the regular season. It was a massive achievement at the time and was one that nowadays has lost its shine.
Westbrook has already set the record for the most triple-doubles in an NBA career and at only 32 years old he is likely going to stretch that record out to a point that will be extremely hard to reach. Westbrook has 184 triple-doubles in his career and had 38 last season alone. He easily has another 100-150 left in him throughout his career.
Westbrook would have to average a triple-double for this futures bet to hit and quite frankly, WynnBET is tilting the balance heavily in the Big O’s favor. Westbrook is a +320 underdog in this bet while Robertson is a -400 favorite.
It is by far the biggest dog of the Lakers’ futures bets in this article and it is the one I like the most. I am taking Russell Westbrook (+320). Let’s talk this out.
Westbrook would have to average a combined 41.1 points, rebounds and assists per game. Last season with the Washington Wizards he averaged 22.2 points, 11.7 assists and 11.5 rebounds (45.5).
Westbrook cleared that number but a pretty large margin and I think he will do so again in LA this season. The scoring numbers from Westbrook are likely going to be the same and the floor is 21 points per game, meaning that he would have to average a combined 20.1 assists and rebounds per game.
While LeBron James is also a facilitator we have already established that his workload will be less and the entire purpose of Westbrook is to make things easier for LeBron. In fact, I think we get a lot of instances where he is creating for LeBron.
The rebounding might be tougher with the size of the Lakers but again, LeBron doing less only helps Westbrook. I think Westbrook gets it done by narrowly edging out the 41 number.
