Los Angeles Lakers: The good, the bad and the story in overtime thriller vs Hornets
By Ronald Agers
The story from the Los Angeles Lakers’ win:
Anthony Davis really gutted out this one.
AD was really feeling under the weather suffering from a cold and dealing with a sprained thumb. He was seen walking around the locker room in the second half. Despite all of the issues Davis was facing (Reports of vomiting during the game!), he still got his numbers with 32 points 12 rebounds, 5 blocks, 4 assists and 3 steals.
His performance in overtime showed heart when his teammates (Outside of Carmelo!) did not want to shoot. He wasn’t the best player on the floor for most of the game, but he really was the foundation to let this guy be the best on the floor.
Carmelo Anthony (Aka the Original Melo!) defined what a Boogie Down Pro-Fessional scorer is!
This writer is not a fan of analytics. See if the Lakers would have gone strictly by this theory to fill out the roster, Carmelo wouldn’t be in a Lakers uniform. Let’s take this point further, Melo would be out of the NBA altogether. But this is why analytics don’t matter.
- Carmelo Anthony could have easily given up on this play but had the presence of mind to throw the ball off Kelly Oubre to keep the ball in play.
- Malik Monk scoops up the ball and knocks down a huge buzzer-beater to end the third quarter.
Then in overtime, Melo knocked down a huge 3 pointer to give the Lakers the lead that they never gave up. He finished with 29 points on 9-13 shooting with seven shots from the land of the extra point.
Lakers play Wednesday night against the Miami Heat.
