Boston media takes cringeworthy shot at Lakers after Dennis Schroder’s big game
By Jason Reed
The Boston Celtics defeated the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night in LeBron James’ return to the roster after missing several weeks with an abdominal strain. The Celtics won the rivalry game, 130-108, and NBC Sports Boston made sure to take a strange shot at the Lakers and Russell Westbrook after the game.
The fuel for NBC Sports Boston’s fire was Dennis Schroder. The former Laker had a really good game, arguably the best game he has played thus far as a Celtic.
Meanwhile, Russell Westbrook had another poor game for the Lakers and is continuing his disappointing season in the purple and gold. NBC Sports Boston made sure to remind Laker fans of his disappointing start and just how much the team is paying him this season during Dennis Schroder’s post-game interview.
This shot at the Los Angeles Lakers and Russell Westbrook after Dennis Schroder’s big game makes no sense.
Boston sports fans are eating this up as if they owned the Lakers with this post-game chyron. However, it is kind of absurd to have this on the screen after Schroder’s great game. I don’t know, maybe highlight how good Schroder played instead of taking a shot at the Lakers for Russell Westbrook?
It is not like it was Schroder or Westbrook. Schroder never appeared to be in the Lakers’ plans after he played poorly last year in the playoffs. Sure, the Russell Westbrook trade looks bad in hindsight, but it is not like the Celtics got some steal over the Lakers with Schroder.
They literally got the LA’s leftovers from last season and he happened to have a great game against his former team. If he was playing well this season it would be one thing. He’s not. He has a -1.5 Box Plus/Minus this season, meaning he is a below-average player this year. Schroder is right down there with Westbrook.
If the goal was to get engagement and get people talking about it then congratulations, NBC Sports Boston accomplished its goal. However, it is hard to get over as anything more than a cringeworthy move. I have never seen the phrase “lol” on a professional television chyron.
But hey, they won a Friday night NBA game in November, so there is plenty to celebrate. The Lakers haven’t been winning much this season but neither have the Celtics, so they have to celebrate something!
