2. Dennis Schroder allows the Lakers to give Russell Westbrook even fewer minutes

After not being able to trade him at the trade deadline this season the Los Angeles Lakers should just bite the bullet and play Russell Westbrook less and less. That is not going to completely solve anything as the Lakers still have a lot of holes on this roster but the team is better when Westbrook does not play.

Heck, perhaps the Lakers can upset Westbrook so much that he opts out of his contract after this season. That is likely not going to happen but who knows, a fan can dream, right?

While the team has been playing Westbrook less recently (something that he thinks contributes to his back injury) they are still giving him a big role in the rotation. Adding a point guard like Schroder who is comfortable with his role on the team can really give the Lakers an excuse to ax Westbrook’s minutes.

Heck, would the Lakers be that much worse off if they just gave Schroder all of the minutes that Westbrook is getting and told Westbrook to go kick rocks and not play? Probably not. Again, the goal for the team right now should be to get out of the Play-In and not playing Westbrook achieves that. The second goal should be to upset Westbrook enough that he at least thinks about opting out of his deal and leaving LA.

The Lakers are not going to be able to completely get rid of Westbrook with any other potential buyout target. Schroder is the only one.
