Lakers send LeBron James back home in this trade package with Cavaliers
By Jason Reed
Why the Cleveland Cavaliers could say yes:
I mean, it really is not that complex. It is LeBron James. While he might not have as much value as he would in previous years because of his age and contract situation, he is still the face of the league and instantly makes a lot of teams an NBA Championship contender. The Cavaliers are one of those teams.
Three picks (one being a pick swap) is a lot to trade for LeBron James but this is not the Cavaliers going all-in on an old team that is going to be bad in a few years. The Cavaliers are building around Evan Mobley and Darius Garland and adding LeBron’s contract while those two are still on small deals would be smart business.
Adding LeBron to the team would not only make the team a contender, but it would be great experience for both Garland and Mobley. They would get very important playoff reps and LeBron would take them under his wing, creating the foundation for future years for the team to contend with those two both having All-NBA ceilings.
Collin Sexton is a very talented young player but the Cavaliers seemed to get better last year when he got hurt. It opened up things for Garland to prove his worth and prove that he is the guard worth building around in Cleveland.
It really is not that complex for the Cavaliers, but there naturally would be some pushback from the fans because of how LeBron left the team last time. As long as the Cavaliers don’t cave into his every request they will be just fine.
