Los Angeles Lakers: Pass or pursue 3 potential Anthony Davis trades
By Jason Reed
3. Trading Anthony Davis to the Big Apple
Julius Randle came back down to earth this past season after a fantastic breakout year with the New York Knicks in the 2020-21 season. After being a hero in New York, Randle’s future with the Knicks is now up in the air as his contract is not great if he plays like he did this past season.
This would be an example of the Lakers flipping Anthony Davis and essentially turning a new page. The team is not going to win a championship with a trio of LeBron James, Julius Randle and Russell Westbrook. The picks are the value here for the Lakers.
While we said it would be better for the Lakers to trade for picks over trading for Rudy Gobert, this does not mean that this is a trade that makes sense for LA. With as bad as the team was last season, it is not in a spot to trade Anthony Davis for a rebuild unless LeBron James forces his way out of LA this offseason.
Randle does not have much trade value this offseason and it is much more likely that the Lakers would trade Westbrook’s expiring contract (with more assets) for Randle and Rose’s contract.
Westbrook obviously does not have much trade value this offseason, so that should tell you everything about how bad this package would be for the Lakers, even with the picks.
Verdict: Pass
