3 Klutch Sports clients the Los Angeles Lakers can trade for this summer
By Jason Reed
3. John Wall
This is someone who the Los Angeles Lakers should absolutely not trade for this offseason but I would not rule out the possibility of it happening. If the bridge is absolutely burned with Russell Westbrook and the Lakers have to get rid of him at any cost then the John Wall trade is the most likely.
This would be such a silly trade for the Lakers to make as the team would be flipping one problem for another. Sure, Westbrook was horrible in Los Angeles but there is nothing to tell us that Wall would be any better.
First of all, Wall has not played a professional basketball game in a year as the Rockets were paying him to not play so he did not hinder the development of the team’s young players. As bad as Westbrook was at least he is still athletic.
Wall has a very similar profile as Westbrook as well. While he does not have the same basketball ego that Westbrook has, he is a ball-dominant guard who cannot shoot and does not play a lick of defense. Sure, he might conform to what the Lakers want him to do more, but he still won’t be good.
Flipping Westbrook for Wall does not increase the team’s title odds and it is not worth it to trade a first-round pick in a deal that does not increase the title odds. However, trading for Westbrook in the first place did not make a lot of sense and Klutch had their fingerprints all over that.
If Klutch wants Westbrook out and wants one of their guys in then we might be seeing John Wall in LA next season.
