3 keys to the Los Angeles Lakers winning the NBA Championship in 2023

3. Bring in as many wings as possible that are similar to the 2019-20 supporting cast
It really is not rocket science to build a contending team around LeBron James and Anthony Davis. It almost feels like Rob Pelinka and the front office overcomplicating things by trying to improve too much after 2020 and then pivoting that into trading for Russell Westbrook.
The Lakers showed exactly that they need to contend for a championship with LeBron and AD (outside of a clean bill of health). They need wings and role players who can defend and hit open threes. That is it. Whether it is someone like Markieff Morris, or Rajon Rondo (who was red-hot in the playoffs). Threes and defense. That is it.
As mentioned, the Lakers are limited in who they can bring in this offseason but there still are options to explore. The door could be open for someone like Danny Green to return and there are players who can play good defense that the team can sign.
Things might be bleak but look at the important role players that the Lakers had two years ago when they won the title. Rondo was a minimum guy. Morris was a buyout signing. Alex Caruso was a homegrown player. Dwight Howard and JaVale McGee were minimum guys. Kyle Kuzma was homegrown. KCP was a savvy signing (who they can maybe bring back).
It might be unlikely but it certainly is not impossible for the Lakers to bring in the necessary talent around LeBron James and Anthony Davis to contend for a title. The blueprint is already there, after all.
