Wayne Ellington: Toronto Raptors

Wayne Ellington should have played more for the Los Angeles Lakers last season. He did everything the team needed him to do as an off-ball scorer and it was like Frank Vogel never even tried to unlock him as a bigger role player on the team.

Ellington is not a great defender and because the team was already giving up defense with Monk and Carmelo, Ellington found himself playing less than 20 minutes per game. While that is understandable, it obviously was not working and it would have been nice to see the Lakers just throw caution to the wind with an all-shooters lineup of Ellington, Monk and Carmelo next to Westbrook and LeBron.

Alas, they did not do that and based on how the team used him last season it seems unlikely that they will bring him back into the fold, even though Ellington still has value as a shooter. This prediction is also us hoping for the best for Ellington as the Toronto Raptors are a smart basketball team that could really utilize him.

The Raptors lacked three-point shooting, especially off the bench last season. While Ellington is not the best shooting wing the team could add this offseason, he would be a nice depth piece to add to a bench unit that would be extremely thin if Chris Boucher leaves in free agency.

Toronto ranked 19th in three-pointers attempted and 20th in three-point percentage last season. Ellington is not going to come and reinvent the offense but is he someone who could get hot and swing a quarter of a big playoff game? Absolutely.
