Earvin “Magic” Johnson changed the way the point guard position was played. He is the reason why we see so many guards with their fancy passes and elite handles. Johnson elevated the game to a new level.

"“Everybody wants to credit Michael Jordan for changing the NBA, but when Magic Johnson came in, that’s where the game changed,” Michael Jordan said."

Johnson was drafted in 1979 by the Lakers with the No.1 pick. Johnson along with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and James Worthy completed the trio known as the “showtime” Lakers and brought excitement back to the game of basketball.

Johnson would dish out no-look passes, set his teammates up for alley-oops, and split defenders with ease. His moves were a fan favorite and what the NBA needed at the time.

He spent 13 seasons with LA and averaged 19.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 11.2 points a game. He went to the Finals nine times, winning five and being selected as Finals MVP three of those times.

Magic is regarded as one of the greatest point guards to play the game. He was flashy but poised. He knew when to get his teammates involved and when to take over a game.

He was so dominant at the point guard position that he was selected to the All-NBA First-Team nine times in his 13-year career.
