Ranking the Lakers offseason additions by their preseason play
By Jason Reed
3. Juan Toscano-Anderson
If we were purely going off the numbers then it would be impossible to rank Juan Toscano-Anderson ahead of Thomas Bryant. On the surface, Toscano-Anderson has had a rough go of things in the preseason thus far for the Lakers.
It hasn’t just been with poor averages, either. Toscano-Anderson has also been dealing with some lingering injuries that have resulted in him missing time. It is nothing to be concerned about long-term, though.
JTA is averaging 5.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 18.8 minutes per game. He is shooting 42.1% from the field and 25% from three. All things considered, those are awful numbers that Lakers fans will struggle to get excited about.
But there have been moments that have shown what JTA could add to this team. It still has not been good overall, but the brief flashes of how he can contribute to this rotation as a three-and-D wing has been exciting enough to put him ahead of the two centers on the Lakers roster.
Los Angeles pretty much needs Toscano-Anderson to work this season as he is one of the very few wing options that Darvin Ham has on the roster. He will get plenty of chances to turn it around.
