3. Zach LaVine

It still seems more likely than not that Russell Westbrook is going to finish the season with the Los Angeles Lakers. However, if the team does end up making a Westbrook trade it will undoubtedly be for Chicago’s Zach LaVine.

There has been some turmoil in Chicago between LaVine and the organization that has put him firmly in trade speculation. With this turmoil in mind, and the fact that the team has a 20-24 record, Chicago might already have buyer’s remorse about LaVine’s long deal.

Other teams in the trade market will likely have the same concerns as well. LaVine does not have the greatest injury history with his knees and there are not many teams that have the contracts to trade for LaVine that are also willing to take on his long contract.

Thus, the Lakers may have a fast track (especially considering LaVine is a Klutch client) to trade for the all-star guard. A package of Westbrook and two unprotected first-round picks could be enough if this gets really ugly, especially if LaVine forces his way out of Chicago.

Is it likely to happen? No. The Lakers seemingly want to avoid the repeater tax and that makes a LaVine trade unlikely. It certainly is not impossible, however, as we have seen far crazier things happen in the NBA.
