The Los Angeles Lakers made a statement in their first game out of the All-Star break, dominating the Golden State Warriors behind a huge game from… Malik Beasley?

The Lakers lost D’Angelo Russell to an ankle injury and didn’t get much from Anthony Davis or LeBron James, yet they pulled out a massive win.

That’s a great sign for the team’s chances down the stretch of this season, starting with Sunday’s nationally televised game against Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving and the Dallas Mavericks.

The Lakers are road underdogs in this game, and Russell is listed as doubtful with the ankle injury he suffered against Golden State.

Still, there could be value on this new-look Lakers team, especially if James bounces back after a poor shooting performance.

Lakers vs. Mavericks odds, spread and total

Lakers vs. Mavericks prediction and pick

Dallas picked up a blowout win over the San Antonio Spurs in its first game back from the break, but the Mavericks have been a questionable defense this season, ranking 23rd in the league in defensive rating.

That could be a problem with the Lakers looking much improved around James and Davis, especially since they have more 3-point shooting.

The great equalizer all season for Dallas has been the 3-ball, ranking third in the league in 3s made per game.

However, if Beasley, Austin Reaves and others keep shooting well, the Lakers can hold up on the offensive end of the floor.

Kyrie and Luka are an elite duo offensively, but Dallas’ defense concerns me, especially with those two on the floor. The Mavs lack options to handle Davis and James after trading away Dorian Finney-Smith.

Dallas is also brutal against the spread this season, even as home favorites, going 9-16-2 ATS in that spot.

Los Angeles lost the last matchup between these teams by just four points in overtime, with a far worse roster.

Don’t sleep on the Lakers to cover in this game.
