The Lakers got great news on Sunday afternoon as the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, LeBron James, returned from his foot injury that cost him 13 straight games over the last several weeks.
Los Angeles maintained its standing in the Western Conference, the Lakers are ninth heading into Monday’s action, and now will be as healthy as its been all season for the final push of the regular season. Oddsmakers have taken notice of the Lakers better play down the stretch and the likelihood that James and Anthony Davis can get them to the postseason.
The Lakers are -180 to make it to the playoffs, which includes surviving the potential Play-In Tournament, which Los Angeles would be in if the season ended today. On the other side, LA is +145 to miss the postseason.
Los Angeles Lakers playoffs odds
The Lakers have the fourth easiest schedule in the league with eight games remaining, a massive boost to its hopes of making the top 10 and at the very least making the Play-In. The West is as crowded as ever, four games separate the No. 4 seed Suns and No. 12 seed Jazz and the Lakers are right in the middle.
For Los Angeles to clinch a playoff berth by the end of the regular season, the team needs to make up a game-and-a-half on the No. 6 seed Warriors. Considering the team has such an easy schedule down the stretch, and the defense is playing at a top five level across the month of March, the Lakers are playing far better than some other teams vying for a postseason berth.
With LeBron back on the floor, the hope is that the Lakers postseason chances are looking up.
