3. Jared McCain, G, Duke Blue Devils
Projected Range: 12-to-20
Jared McCain is a combo guard who lacks the size to play the 2 or the traditional skill set to transition seamlessly as a point guard. It's the primary reason he could be available at No. 17, as teams are unsure of how he fits into a rotation at this stage of his development.
The Los Angeles Lakers are an ideal landing spot for McCain, however, as LeBron James still plays in a primary facilitating role and could thus enable a more patient growth process.
McCain's shooting touch has him on the radar, as he has a case for being the best pure shooter in his class. He knocked down 41.4 percent of his 210 three-point field goal attempts as a true freshman, also converting 88.5 percent of his free throw attempts.
McCain proved that could translate to the biggest moments, as he scored 30 points to send Duke to the Sweet 16 and dropped 32 points in the Elite Eight.
McCain has shown the shifty ability to get into the paint and draw contact, which is why he's been compared to Jalen Brunson. That may or may not be a reach, but it's a testament to his ability to score from anywhere and utilize his skill to beat opponents when his athleticism won't suffice.
If the Lakers are patient, then helping McCain play as a modern point guard who scores first and is willing to operate in a motion offense could pay All-Star-level dividends.
