Lauri Markkanen, Utah Jazz

A second trade option that would likely break the bank, Lauri Markkanen is a captivating player. A 7'0" sharpshooter who can take over games as a scorer and even create for others in a pinch, Markkanen has a fascinating skill set that the Los Angeles Lakers could explore.

Still just 27 years of age, Markkanen would be a landscape-altering acquisition on an affordable deal that the Lakers could easily match financially.

Markkanen is owed an expiring $18,044,544 for the 2024-25 season. Rui Hachimura and a minimum salary could get the financial aspect of the trade done, with future draft compensation and other requested player additions providing the biggest hurdle.

In terms of how he fits on the court, Markkanen is a three-level scorer with fluid athleticism who could provide elite spacing for a team that plays through two of the best interior finishers in the NBA.

Markkanen has averaged 24.5 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.1 offensive boards, 1.9 assists, and 3.1 three-point field golas made on .490/.395/.885 shooting over the past two seasons. Anthony Davis and LeBron James, meanwhile, both ranked in the top 10 in points in the paint per game in 2023-24.

The only reason to press pause on potential interest: Markkanen has missed at least 20 games in five of his seven NBA seasons. Rob Pelinka must determine if the pros outweigh the cons.
