Lakers 2024 NBA Mock Draft: Projecting Los Angeles' picks if New Orleans defers
Honorable Mention: Cam Spencer, Guard, UConn Huskies
Standing at 6'3" with a 6'5" wingspan, Cam Spencer is an undersized shooting guard who may lack the skill set to run point full-time. Spencer is also a 24-year-old incoming rookie with a hip injury in his past, thus making him a candidate to go undrafted.
In saying that, Spencer is also the arguable best shooter in the 2024 NBA Draft, and should therefore be someone the Los Angeles Lakers seriously consider at No. 55 overall.
Spencer shot at least 43.4 percent from beyond the arc in three of his four full seasons at UConn. That includes 2023-24, when he buried 99 three-point field goals on 44.0 percent shooting from distance, as well as 82 free throws on a mark of 91.1 percent.
In addition to being generationally efficient, Spencer is a proven winner who played a vital role in the UConn Huskies winning the 2024 NCAA Championship.
While not a true point guard, it's worth noting that Spencer often brought the ball up for a UConn team that ran a remarkable motion offense. He thrived within that system, averaging 14.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.5 steals, and 2.5 three-point field goals made per game as a senior.
For the Lakers, adding a player who can shoot the lights out, play without the ball, happily create for others, and defend the point guard position with effort and intensity would be a dream at No. 55 overall.
