Los Angeles Lakers Most Popular NBA Team on Twitter, Facebook

Someone with more time than I went ahead and tallied up how many people either follow @Teamname or are fans of the team on facebook and the Los Angeles Lakers came out on top by a substantial margin.
The Lakers have ~1.5 million followers on twitter, first place by half of a million. They are followed by the Orlando Magic at just under 1 million followers. The third place team barely has 30,000 followers. Yes, you read that right- the Lakers have more followers than all the other NBA teams COMBINED (or very close to it).
With regards to facebook, the Lakers again lead all NBA teams with 650,000 fans. Second place is some team in Boston with 480,000 while most teams have less than 50,000.
What does all of this mean? The Lakers are the most popular team in the NBA, for one. Second, Boston doesn’t push its twitter feed as much as its facebook page, and Orlando pushes twitter over facebook by a 10-to-1 margin.
It’s no wonder the crowds at away games still chant “MVP” when Kobe is at the line sometimes.
