Lakers Front Office Defines Crazy

By Albert Einstein’s definition the Lakers’ front office is crazy.

They’re crazy to think going at it with the same players, same coaches and same approach will result in anything else but another title-less season.

They’re crazy to think Jim Buss knows anything of how to build a champion.

They’re crazy to assume fans of the purple and gold will blindly support a team being kept in tact for the sake of saving millions while Kobe Bryant’s career slowly fades into the sunset.

Well, at least we won’t have false hopes for the Lakers this upcoming season.  The writing is on the wall and it’s looking like another lackluster romp through the regular season followed by a postseason swoon that might end even earlier than the last two.

Earlier this week Jim Buss openly stated that the Lakers weren’t going to make any major moves. Then for good measure Mitch Kupchak chimed in with the same song and dance. Citing the new luxury tax rules, the lack of draft picks and a collection of bad contracts Kupchak all but admitted that the Lakers are already closing up shop in June.

This is madness!

This is L.A. where title chasing is the norm.

This is not what we want to hear from our general manager.

"“I would say it’s unlikely we would do something very major.”"

Excuse me? Unlikely because it requires effort or unlikely because it requires an owner to be present in the office from time to time?

This is not acceptable by any means. This team isn’t a contender but it’s not so far from contending that taking the Portland Trailblazer approach is warranted. You know that we’re-contending-so-that’s-good enough approach that the Blazers patented and the Sacramento Kings perfected in the early 2000’s.

This is L.A.! This is the greatest hoops franchise on the planet.

Trust fund Buss is a lunatic if he thinks this is how his father got to be where he is.

Kupchak is crazy too if he stays in the Laker front office. As it stands Kupchak’s legacy is in good standing. But he’d be advised to jump ship soon unless he wants to be the architect of the demise of the Lake Show.

This is not what we expect. We expect an aggressive front office that sets the tone for the team. Not a bunch of men standing around with their hands in the air and their faces turned down looking like Bud Selig.

This could be the end of the Lakers as we know them and trust fund Buss is leading our beloved franchise to a Thelma and Louise conclusion.

This is insane! This is madness! This is crazy!

This is the new look Lakers where mediocrity is good enough.

This isn’t right.
