If Pau Gasol weren’t seven feet tall, extremely skilled and competitive then odds are he would have made his mark in the medical field. Once upon a time Gasol was actually in med school in his native Barcelona. But the basketball gods had other plans for the man that will go down as one of the greatest international players to ever step foot on an NBA court.

But like all human beings with a passion for anything in life, Pau hasn’t let his lucrative NBA career distract him from perhaps his true calling. Gasol has become known off the court for his many charitable acts including his frequent work with the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.

In fact Gasol has been so involved with the hospital that he’s been honored with the Courage to Care award to be presented at an event at L.A. Live later this month.

Among Pau’s many deeds are contributions in the $250,000 range, serving as an ambassador for the Children’s hospital during an NBA cares event and he was also the inaugural winner of the NBA’s Kia Community Assist Award.

And people thought Shaq-a-Claus was the only Lakers big man that cared for the community.
