Nelly calls out Kobe Bryant

Nelly, yes that Nelly, was on First Take this morning with Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless. No, he wasn’t commenting on the temperature of the room or asking people to take rides with him, but debating sports. In Nelly’s defense, he does own a small part of the Charlotte Bobcats, a la Jay-Z “owning” the Nets. And he is well-known for being an all-around sports fan. Which comes as a bit of a shock at his comments Tuesday on ESPN.

In short, Nelly blasted Kobe Bryant. When asked why Dwight left the Lakers, Nelly responded with “Who wants to play with Kobe?” He then proceeded, in a round about way, to blame Kobe for the current state of the Lakers, asking who has ever blamed Kobe and wondering if Kobe’s ever been held accountable for the actions going on with the Lakers.

“You’re telling me Kobe Bryant couldn’t have put in a phone call to get Phil Jackson two more days [in regards to the Lakers not waiting on Phil's decision before hiring D'Antoni]. I don’t think Kobe wanted Phil Jackson. I think he’s that type of person that he’s trying to prove he can win a ring without Phil Jackson.”

Oh Nelly. No no no. Why couldn’t you have just kept rapping? You couldn’t have just stayed in the studio and made music?

There’s much more lunacy within the video, more than I care to break down. Watch it yourself and tell us YOUR thoughts on Nelly’s comments.

What a fool. D12 just doesn’t have what it takes to cut it in LA period… Kobe played with more heart in one game then D12 did the whole year.

Kobe is spoiled , and anything he does seams to be swept under the rug , in the 2 championships he won without shaq who was the person who sealed those victories …….. his teammates , fisher and trevor ariza in orlando , and metta in the boston series , this man is no leader , he’s just a glory seeker , he will never be Jordan , he will never be the best .

Basketball is a team game idiot. Lebron wouldn’t have won his 2nd ring if it wasn’t for Ray Allen… Jordan wouldn’t have gotten one of his ring without Steve Kerr hitting those crucial jumpers. Nelly should just stick to his rapping. I can tell you a Kobe hater….must be a Clipper fan…lmao!

Just the type of attention for a dwindling wannabe rapper. Aside of Kobe, DH wouldn’t be able to handle the responsibility of being a Laker. Didn’t have it in the noggin, he couldn’t play alongside of Kobe given his lack of mentality and work ethic.

There’s a lot of responsibility that comes with being the top NBA organization, like you have mentioned not everyone can handle the pressure working for high profiled businesses.

A lot of us also know that Kobe plays his best when he scores less than 30 points or so and distributes the ball… but yet you see him as a ball hog when everyone else around him fails to step up and earn their pay. Kobe’s one of the great’s for a reason, consistency and work discipline.
