Nelly calls out Kobe Bryant

facebooktwitterreddit

Nelly, yes that Nelly, was on First Take this morning with Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless. No, he wasn’t commenting on the temperature of the room or asking people to take rides with him, but debating sports. In Nelly’s defense, he does own a small part of the Charlotte Bobcats, a la Jay-Z “owning” the Nets. And he is well-known for being an all-around sports fan. Which comes as a bit of a shock at his comments Tuesday on ESPN.

In short, Nelly blasted Kobe Bryant. When asked why Dwight left the Lakers, Nelly responded with “Who wants to play with Kobe?” He then proceeded, in a round about way, to blame Kobe for the current state of the Lakers, asking who has ever blamed Kobe and wondering if Kobe’s ever been held accountable for the actions going on with the Lakers.

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!!

“You’re telling me Kobe Bryant couldn’t have put in a phone call to get Phil Jackson two more days [in regards to the Lakers not waiting on Phil’s decision before hiring D’Antoni]. I don’t think Kobe wanted Phil Jackson. I think he’s that type of person that he’s trying to prove he can win a ring without Phil Jackson.”

Oh Nelly. No no no. Why couldn’t you have just kept rapping? You couldn’t have just stayed in the studio and made music?

There’s much more lunacy within the video, more than I care to break down. Watch it yourself and tell us YOUR thoughts on Nelly’s comments.
