The Lakers added a familiar name to their staff Monday when they brought back former Laker player and coach Kurt Rambis.

Rambis played for the Lakers during the Showtime era, 1981-88. He’s most known as being on the receiving end of a Kevin McHale clothesline during the heat of the Celtics-Lakers rivalry.

Rambis joined the Lakers coaching staff in 1994 and stayed as an assistant or interim coach until 2009, when he was hired as the head coach of the Timberwolves. His time as coach in Minnesota was quite underwhelming, resulting in his firing in 2011.

Rambis joins Johnny Davis today as official hires. Davis has spent time as an assistant with the Magic, 76ers, Grizzlies, and most recently with the Raptors.

With the addition of these two, the Lakers coaching staff is now comprised of Mike D’Antoni, Dan D’Antoni, Rambis, Davis, Mark Madsen and Larry Lewis.
