The Lakers primary focus has been to set themselves up for the most cap flexibility next summer, with Steve Nash and Robert Sacre being the lone exceptions. However, the Lakers are expressing interest in another quality player whose contract runs through the summer.

Omer Asik has wanted out of Houston since the moment Dwight Howard signed with the team. Most recently, his frustrations have begun to show more and more, and his demand for a trade have also increased in seriousness. According to Peter Vescey, the Lakers are interested in the big man.

For someone of Asik’s caliber, the Lakers would need some very valuable assets to send to Houston, which simply isn’t the case with this Lakers squad. Still, that doesn’t rule out the possibility of bring a 3rd team in the mix of some sort to acquire the big man.
