”I got a call from the Lakers asking about him and they may end up with a good pick,” Longley said.

The Lakers are doing their research in the draft and a key player just may be within reach.  His name is Dante Exum.  He recently signed with Kobe’s agent, Rob Pelinka, and will be part of the 2014 NBA draft.  He’s a 6’6″ projected point guard, with a combination of quickness, speed, agility, ball-handling, and unselfishness.  He may need to gain some strength and refine his jumpshot at the NBA level, but the physical tools and NBA level skills are there.

He is also able to play within multiple offensive schemes.  He has a post game that would work in the triangle offense, and a speed game that works well with Mike D’Antoni’s uptempo offense.

The Lakers would be fortunate to run with a big point guard once again.  He may not having the passing ability of Magic Johnson, but he does have the athleticism to compete with the league’s elite.

I love love love Dante Exum. he can’t shoot for crap but that much easier to learn than how to make everyone around you better.

Barring a random drawing or Silver making amends for Stern’s crippling CP3 fiasco, the team needs to look at talent in the #5-10 range.
If Love is the immediate target, then the team needs to find compliment pieces. Also note, the league is filled with TONS of cheap and talented SF’s, so to some extent, this position should be avoided. Unless Kobe’s heir apparent is available, we can think that for 2 years this position is locked, and if the situation were “right” he might come back for a 3rd and/or 4th. – Also, Young is a good backup & compliment to Kobe for 48 minutes.

    A sensible cluster:
Embiid (C) or Wiggins(SG) <- Both works in progress, but immediate impacts.
Exum (SG) <- 2-3 year project.
Smart (PG) <- Can he be as good as Rose?
Cauley-Stein (C) <- Rather than sign D12, draft him. (Every Lakers Banner hangs because of superior Center Play)
    Young (SG) <- Could be a steal…

      Agreed on Embiid, Wiggins, Exum.

Smart is not as good as Rose.

Young is a tier below in terms of superstar talent. Really needs to assert ball-handling/slashing game to take it to the next level offensively.
