Lakers Rumors: Tyrus Thomas To Work Out For Team

The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to bring in forward Tyrus Thomas for a workout sometime in the near future.

In his last season in the NBA, Thomas averaged just 4.8 points and 2.3 rebounds in 26 games in 2012-13. At his best, Thomas was an athletic forward who averaged 10.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks in his third year in the league.

However, Thomas quickly flamed out toward the end of his tenure in the NBA, seeing only 13.8 minutes a night for Charlotte in his last season.

To his credit, Thomas seems to have the right mindset in trying to get back into the league.

"“I was 19 years old when I first entered the NBA; it’s no excuse and I’ve owned my mistakes, but whew have I grown a lot,” Thomas said. “Over the last two years, I’ve grown not only as a player but as a person. I now realize the opportunities that, at times, I took for granted. I look back now and I was just a poor kid from South Baton Rouge. I didn’t understand then what I understand now. Everything happened at once: getting amnestied, going through a divorce and making the decision if I wanted to come back and play basketball because of the severity of the surgery. Going through all of that, I definitely grew up.”"

As has been the case with all other free agent rumors, the Lakers will have to waive someone if they do decided to sign Thomas.
