Lakers Rumors: Team ‘Unlikely’ To Part With Jordan Hill

With the trade deadline fast approaching, the Lakers rumors are about the likelihood of trading Jordan Hill, who reportedly has nothing happening around him in terms of trade discussions.

The Lakers most tradeable asset on their roster remains big man Jordan Hill, who has a unique contract that could lead to him having an expiring contract this summer. On top of that, he’s having a career year, statistically speaking.

However, Sean Deveney of Sporting News reports that the Lakers are unlikely to move Hill before the trade deadline Thursday afternoon.

"While Hill has been mentioned as a possible trade chip in the Lakers’ efforts to alter the roster going forward—his name has come up in connection with Goran Dragic of the Suns and Reggie Jackson of the Thunder—a source told Sporting News that it is, “highly unlikely,” that Hill will be traded before Thursday’s deadline.“There doesn’t seem to be anything happening there at all,” the source said."

The Lakers have been in the middle of their share of rumors this week already, mainly involving Goran Dragic, who has requested a trade from the Phoenix Suns and also has the Lakers on his list of preferred destinations. The Suns and Lakers had preliminary discussions on Dragic, but nothing serious came of them.

For Hill, his contract is a two-year deal with a team option in the second season. By having the second year as a team option, Hill is given veto power in any trade so long as his option is up in the air. His veto power could be taken away by picking up the second option of his deal, but then his contract no longer expires this summer, making it far less desirable.

However, all this being said, there are still roughly 20 hours left in the trade deadline and deals can come out of no where, especially if teams get desperate closer to the 3:00 PM Eastern deadline on Thursday.
