Grammy-winning jazz artist Robert Glasper teamed with Nike to compose a soundtrack for Kobe Bryant’s career

There have been many ways that opposing teams throughout the NBA have found to honor Los Angeles Lakers retiring legend Kobe Bryant through the course of his last season. All of these ways have struck different chords for both Bryant and for fans.

For instance, the ceremony from his hometown in Philadelphia was emotional as he was given his high school jersey in a frame from “Dr. J.” Julius Erving. On another note, Sacramento Kings general manager Vlade Divac giving Kobe a Charlotte Hornets jersey as a rib for the trade that the Lakers made with the Hornets involving Divac to get Kobe was hilarious.

However, the folks at Nike Basketball have outdone themselves as they collaborated with Grammy-winning jazz artist/composer Robert Glasper to compose a soundtrack for Kobe’s 20-year career in the NBA:

Nike also released a behind-the-scenes look at Glasper as he created the tune:

For one, the piece of music is absolutely epic and brings about tons of emotion in terms of listening to it with Bryant in mind (which is the point, after all). Moreover, it’s also a nod to Black History Month as it is written with a 4/4-6/8 pattern in honor of April 4, 1968 and the tragic events of that day (the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.).

So fire up your favorite Kobe highlights or game and turn on the soundtrack to take a trip down memory lane and experience more of the emotions that the Mamba’s final season has inevitably brought about on a number of occasions already and on more to come.
