Kobe Bryant shed some light on the Pau Gasol-Lakers situation after Thursday night’s game against the Chicago Bulls

The Los Angeles Lakers front office has made blunder after blunder since the passing of Dr. Jerry Buss, and Thursday night’s newest revelation further tarnishes their track record.

If Thursday’s game was any indicator of Pau Gasol’s value, and it should be, as he lit up the Lakers for a near triple-double finishing with 21 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists, Kobe’s newest insight about why Pau didn’t re-sign with the team should infuriate fans.

To most, this is old news, but the fact that Kobe would come out and say it now is interesting. Is he taking a subtle shot at management before he rides off into the sunset? It sure seems so.

After leading the team to three straight NBA Finals, and winning two, back-to-back nonetheless, the Lakers were quick to single Gasol out as the scapegoat for their failures thereafter. Tensions reached an all time high when the Lakers shipped him and Lamar Odom to, at the time, the New Orleans Hornets for Chris Paul, in a trade we all know was rescinded by David Stern.

Unlike Odom, Gasol remained professional throughout the entire ordeal, but the damage was already done. Three seasons and a multitude of trade rumors later, the under-appreciated seven footer decided that enough was enough and left for Chicago in free agency.

Yes, had the Chris Paul trade gone through, this wouldn’t have even been a discussion, as a core of Paul-Bryant and Andrew Bynum or Dwight Howard, would have been consolation enough for his loss, but this represents just another misstep from the Lakers front office.

This trade deadline and off-season may serve as the straw that breaks the camel’s back, so the Lakers must be wise with their next few decisions.
