Sunday afternoon, the Los Angeles Lakers took on the defending champion, Golden State Warriors, and came out victorious

After a lackadaisical performance against the Atlanta Hawks Friday night, things only looked to get worse with the Lakers taking on the Golden State Warriors Sunday afternoon at STAPLES Center.

However, to everyone’s surprise, the Lakers came out with an energy that fans have been desperate to see all year, jumping out to a double digit lead at the end of the first half, holding off the Warriors’ runs in the second half, propelling themselves to victory.

According to ABC, the Lakers win over the Warriors represented the largest differential in win percentage between two teams in which the worse team won.

What made the result that much more astonishing was the fact that, despite giving up an abundance of wide open threes, the Purple and Gold held the Dubs to 4-of-30 from downtown, a staggering 13.3 percent. In a season full of lows, this was an exciting performance for the Lakers and it reminds fans of the bright future that remains even in life after Kobe.

Yes, wins like these may ultimately cost the Lakers their draft pick, but shocking victories like this reminds Lakers faithful that perhaps a better future isn’t that far off.

Additionally, the Lakers young duo of Jordan Clarkson and D’Angelo Russell had another impressive performance combining for 46 points, hitting a variety of shots to stop the Warriors’ runs.

The Lakers will look to build on their impressive victory against the Orlando Magic Tuesday night.
