Power ranking the top five candidates for NBA Rookie of the Year after the 2016 NBA Draft

Coming out of the NBA Draft, it’s always interesting to look at the different impact that the different prospects and players could ultimately have when everything is all said and done. You can’t just look at where a player was drafted to determine that, though, when there are things like age, upside, situation, and so much more to consider.

The Los Angeles Lakers actually serve as a great example of this. The Lakers took Brandon Ingram with the No. 2 overall pick and Ingram projects to be a future All-Star at small forward and could potentially be a superstar at one point. However, he’s also still incredibly young and has a great deal of maturation left both physically and as a player before he’s going to become that for the Lakers. Thus, he’s not going to have the immediate impact some players will.

One of the best ways to go about looking at the immediate impact of these players is to simply stack them up against one another in regards to the NBA Rookie of the Year. Essentially comparing the chances that each player in this draft class has of winning the 2016-17 NBA Rookie of the Year.

To see where Ingram fits in and to see how the other rookies compare, that’s what we’re going to take a way-too-early look at. Obviously free agency moves can dramatically change things like situation, role, and so on, but why not survey the landscape? These are the gut-reaction NBA Rookie of the Year Power Rankings right after the 2016 NBA Draft.
