Ron Artest Sets Off ‘The Ring Series’ with Birthday Bash

By now you know that Ron Artest is going to be raffling off his championship ring with the proceeds being donated to his mental health initiative Xcel University. What you might not be aware of is that Artest will be hosting three events – known as The Ring Series – with the final event being the raffle of his ring on Christmas Day. You can enter your name in the raffle and get info on the events, all of which will take place at L.A. Live’s The Conga Room, by going to Ron’s website.

Last night, the series got underway with a Birthday celebration in honor of Ron Ron.

Shout out to Courtney Merfeld and her team at CMPR who rolled out the red carpet for Lake Show Life at last night’s event. Much appreciated!

The packed house was buzzing despite the disappointing loss to Phoenix just hours before. As promised, there were plenty of recognizable faces in crowd. Among them were SportsCenter L.A. anchor Stan Verrett, former L.A. Times columnist J.A. Adande, Matt Barnes (perhaps the lone Laker to attend) and most notably was David Arquette.

I know Arquette is a Laker fanatic but homeboy might just be bordering on Laker lunacy. My man showed up to the celebration sporting an Elvis inspired Laker outfit complete with a Purple cape with the #8 and his last name stitched on the back. Sometimes folks just have too much money and free time for their own good.

Any how, the event made for a great way to start the L.A. work week as Artest thanked all those in attendance before turning it over Faith Evans.

The next event will be the evening of December 8th and it promises to be even bigger and better than the last. So why not spend an evening watching your favorite team and then cap it off by lending your money to a worthy cause? I plan on attending the next two and if you can track me down I’ll buy the first round.
