As if losing to the Nuggets in embarrassing fashion weren’t enough Sunday, the basketball Gods seemed bent on adding injury to insult for the Lakers. In one fateful second half the hopes of a three-peat were put on temporary hiatus as both Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol went out with knee injuries.
Luckily for Bynum he was sporting that bionic brace. Without it we’d be looking at our annual Andrew injury debacle which, naturally, came via friendly fire as Lamar Odom landed on Bynum’s bad knee.
Pau on the other hands wasn’t sporting any protective hardware when he and Nene collided. Gasol went into the locker room but was able to return in order to finish the contest.
An MRI yesterday revealed a bone bruise on Pau’s bum knee meaning the Spaniard is officially listed as day-to-day. Not great news but nothing that is going to prevent Pau from playing in the near future.
Hopefully this is as close as we come to any serious injury prior to or during the playoffs. Despite the setback against Denver this team is peaking at the perfect time. Right about now the only thing standing in the way of another banner is injury.
