Aside from Ben Gordon, name one British baller…I’ll wait…
They Brits might play a mean game of football. They’ve got a serious pedigree when it comes to filmmaking. For good measure they’ve even got some of the liveliest crowds at sporting events too. However when it comes to hoops the Brits are all sixes and sevens.
So maybe what that area of the globe needs is temporary infusion of world class talent to get the basketball blood flowing.
Enter Ron Artest aka Metta World Peace.
Ron Ron wasn’t playing when it came to playing in England. It wasn’t that long ago Ron’s agent refuted a claim of Artest being linked to playing in Finland saying his client wouldn’t play in a league of such low caliber. Of course his agent also said the same about the British Basketball League.
Low and behold Artest is linked to the Cheshire Jets of the BBL.
The British hoops season starts at the end of September. So if you happen to actually see Metta in a Cheshire jersey then you know the lockout is in full effect.
Artest sights his desire to “make it a rap show, play ball, be crazy and entertain” as his reasoning to play professionally in the United Kingdom. There’s also the advantage of not having to learn a new language. Though I’m sure there is plenty of British hoops slang Ron Ron is not yet hip to.
