Here we go again. Another rumor of Kobe Bryant going overseas means another round of speculation, conjecture and potentially pointless pondering. It’s just that this time around it seems more reasonable and feasible.
While the talks of Turkey were more bar room discussion than news worthy, the latest European get away makes much more sense for Bryant.
According to reports, Italian club Virtus Bologna is making a move to lockdown KB24 during the NBA lockout. A supposed salary of $800,000 per home game is being floated Mamba’s way.
Naturally Kobe’s Italian connection is the first reason why it seems possible he would consider the offer. After spending some of his childhood in Italy you could argue he’d be making a homecoming of sorts.
While I can’t speak to the reasonability of the financial offer, it is a healthy sum of cash.
But beyond the aforementioned reasons Italy also boasts of one of the world’s best soccer leagues. No doubt Kobe would be sitting front and center for many of the Italian Serie A classic clashes. Dude already speaks the language and has a natural love for the world’s most popular game, so it only makes sense.
Oh…did I mention that Italian hoops are on the rise too?
But before we start another round of European speculation, let’s first focus on the here and now.
Right here and right now it is crunch time for the NBA lockout. The start of the season is in jeopardy and the balance of the season is twisting in the wind. Should a deal get done we can forget about all this Euro talk.
