While the hoops world breathlessly awaits news on the potential movement of Dwight Howard and/or Chris Paul the Lakers are continuing their search for low cost options to bolster the roster. Today three more veterans were reported to have made an appearance at the team’s facility in El Segundo.
Continuing the quest for a knockdown shooter the Lakers are said to have brought in Rashad McCants for a looksee. Once upon a time the former North Carolina Tar Heel was selected 14th overall by the Minnesota Timberwovles. Unable to stay healthy or happy in Minnesota McCants was shipped off to Sacramento where he did little to shed his bust label or dispel notions of his sour attitude. Last season Rashad was in the D-League. He’s also a former love interest of Khloe Kardashian so that might not go over so well with Lamar Odom.
Laker fans will remember Leon Powe from his days as a Boston Celtic when his green team ripped the hearts from Los Angeles in the NBA Finals…yeah…ok…I’m over it…Sigh…
An Oakland native, Powe was once a promising prospect but has endured a series of serious knee injuries going all the way back to his sophomore year at Cal-Berkeley. If healthy Powe is a tenacious, high energy forward that was once an elite level athlete. The former second round pick has done well for himself to stick around the NBA despite his injury setbacks.
Marcus Banks was almost as Laker once. As part of the Gary Payton trade, Banks was set to become a Laker until Payton refused to take a physical in Boston. The deal still went through but Banks was returned to Boston as compensation for Payton’s decision to not meet with team doctors. Banks was also a former first round pick but has never completely fit in on any NBA roster. Banks is a point guard known for his defensive prowess yet limited offense. The Lakers are in desperate need for a solid defender at the point but could also use someone that can contribute on both end of the court.
