The writing was on the wall when Shannon Brown chose to again opt-out of his contract with the Lakers for the second time in as many years. Adrian Wojnarowski confirms Brown is all but gone from Los Angeles.
Apparently Brown will be headed to the rival Phoenix Suns for a one-year deal worth $3.5-million.
Can’t fault Shannon for taking the payday, he certainly wasn’t going to get more from the Lakers. However he’s once again playing out what amounts to a one-year audition. In addition Brown will have an expiring deal which always comes in handy for teams looking to make moves during the season.
Shannon’s time in L.A. will always be remembered fondly by fans. He quickly became a crowd favorite thanks to his highlight reel hops and clutch shooting. Shannon made the most of his opportunity in L.A. winning two rings and earning an expanded role after arriving as a throw-in via trade.
Of course those that long to see Shannon play won’t have to worry as he’ll be competing in the same division. Too bad those trampoline dunks will come at the Lakers’ expense this time around.
